The SPASH boys basketball team rebounded from a Friday night loss at Merrill with a resounding 69 – 41 win over visiting D. C. Everest Tuesday night. The Panthers improve their Wisconsin Valley Conference record to 3-1. Everest drops to 2 – 2.
SPASH wasted little time setting the tone for the game racing out to a 24 – 7 lead midway through the first half enroute to a 38 – 17 advantage at the break.
“This was a big win for us, having to bounce back from the Merrill game,” said sophomore guard Evan Vollendorf who finished the night with 11 points and three rebounds.
Senior forward Drew Blair led all scorers lighting up the board with 21 points, hauled down four rebounds and dished out three assists. Blair was coming off a school record 47 point scoring spree at Merrill.
The Panthers hit 22 two pointers, seven threes and went 4 of 6 at the free throw line.
“I really enjoy playing with this team and fitting in with how we play,” said Vollendorf. “When we get the ball moving on offense we’re hard to guard,” he observed.
Drew Cullen continued his solid senior season finishing the night with 9 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The SPASH junior varsity dropped a 56 – 53 decision to Everest. Austin Beyer led the Panthers with 15 points. Steffen James and Isaac Eppinger each dropped in ten. The JV2 squad lost 28 – 17. Isaac Williams led the team with 7 points.
