STEVENS POINT — The SPASH boys basketball team celebrated Drew Cullen’s birthday with a lopsided win over the Wausau East Lumberjacks Friday night at the SPASH fieldhouse 79 – 39. The win improves the Panthers record to 4 -1 in Wisconsin Valley Conference play. East drops to 0 – 5 in the conference.
SPASH senior Drew Blair led all scorers lighting up the board with 30 points. Blair pulled down five rebounds and dished out 6 assists on the evening. Brennan Mueller added 15 points including three 3-pointers on the evening.
Continuing his solid senior season with 6 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal Cullen reflected on the team’s play approaching the midway point in the schedule.
“The team is in a good place right now,” said Cullen. “The thing that works best for us is grinding teams down in the half court. We can also push the ball at times which is helpful. My role this year is to be a shooter as well as distributer for our team. We have multiple guys on the floor who can do a lot of things for us and that makes it very easy when everyone is on and playing well,” Cullen added.
The Panthers hit twelve 3-pointers for the game and went 15 of 20 at the free throw line.
Ryan LaCerte led the Lumberjack scoring with 10 points. Trey Buchberger added nine and Forrest Kronberger dropped in seven for East.
SPASH returns to valley action January 19 when they travel to Wausau West for a 7:15 pm tip.
