To the Editor:
Our next county executive should be someone that will be a check and balance to the county board.
This person should have lived in Central Wisconsin long enough to be aware of our needs, concerns, and past history. This individual should represent all the residents of this county, and not just a particular sector or group. It is important that this individual has a full knowledge of the job and the county. This individual needs a compassionate heart, and the ability to make tough decisions that may not always be popular.
As one who was involved in establishing the County Executive position in Portage County, I do not want to see this position corrupted or weakened. I am deeply concerned that one of the candidates is considering the validity of a County Executive who is chosen by the voters verses one who is appointed by the county board.
I am also concerned about a candidate who is an existing county board supervisor becoming a check and balance to the board of supervisors. I see this as dangerous. I will be voting for the one candidate who offers the most experience, who understands the needs & concerns of Portage County, and who fully supports the County Executive office and the need for its existence.
That candidate is Jami Gebert.
Having served as the administrative assistant to the County Executive, she will have the ability to hit the ground running.
